Triathlon For Weight Loss Series – Believe In Yourself

Step 1- Believe in Yourself

We want to change the way you look at weight loss… forever.

Sometimes we are our own worst enemies, especially when it comes to weight loss. We get down on ourselves and punish our bodies and we don’t have a positive body image. If you have ever been on a weight loss plan, it can take weeks before you notice any results. Often times our immediate reaction is to wonder “what is wrong with my body?” or “Why is this plan not working for me?” or “I’m a failure.” And that’s where the downward spiral starts.

But the fact is that there is nothing wrong with you and you are not a failure. There are many weight loss plans out there that don’t set you up for success or that are so rigorous that they’re impossible to stick to. No wonder they don’t work! However, despite the flaws in the plans, another vital thing is missing.

Try to think of 3 words to describe yourself. What are those words? Are they intelligent, beautiful and funny? Or are they procrastinator, overweight and boring. The words you choose to describe yourself can tell you a lot about your body image AND they can also be a good indicator of whether or not you will have success in your weight loss efforts.

If you have a negative view of yourself then you won’t want to spend very much time exercising, nurturing your body or eating foods that are healthy and provide you with vibrant energy. If you don’t think you’re worth it, you won’t be motivated to loose weight, tone up or complete a triathlon. If you don’t think you can do it, you’re probably right.

Believing in yourself and thinking positively about your life and your body is the first step to achieving your triathlon for weight loss goals. What we want you to do is to get 8 index cards and write down 5 things you like about yourself and 3 things you want become. It might look like something this: I like my hair, I like my skin, I like my biceps, I like that I am a loyal friend, I like that I can play the guitar; I want to become: fit, confident, and be an inspiration to others.

Now you have 8 index cards with positive words written on them. We want you to look at yourself in the mirror and read them outloud every day.

Soon, you will find that these positive thoughts are crowding out all the negative ones and you’ll notice that you are no longer fearful, pessimistic or cynical, but you are now hopeful, grateful and optimistic. And that is the perfect fertile ground for dreams to grow!

Even if your goal sounds impossible at the moment, believe in yourself. Believe that with some hard work and sweat, you can achieve anything you set your mind to.

Running is a HUGE challenge for me. It does not come naturally to me. It hurts my hips and no matter how hard I try, I cannot run fast. And that is probably why I have never run more than 6 miles in my life. Just the thought of running more than that seemed impossible. So when my husband suggested we train for a half marathon, I thought he was crazy. 10 minutes later we were registered and I now had 3 months to train to run 13.1 miles. Although it seemed like I’d NEVER be able to run that distance, I decided to believe in myself. And guess what? I did it! After months of training and running and sweating, I finally was able to run 13.1 miles.

Your goal may seem impossible too, but the first step to achieving any goal is to realize you’re awesome, you’re worth it and you have what it takes to make your dreams come true!

And speaking of goals and dreams, in Step 2, we’ll teach you how to write out your goals in such a way that you’re guaranteed success!
