However, you may have some different thoughts running through your mind. “Where the heck to I even start?”, “I’m scared to death to swim…”, “I don’t know where to get a bike…”, “Is this training going to take over my life?” or “What have I gotten myself into?”
There’s no hiding the fact that training for a triathlon can become overwhelming. But there’s hope!

That’s pretty amazing, huh?
Do you think that the ants dug that intricate maze in a day?
They created it by simply moving one grain of sand at a time.
It’s common to sign up for a triathlon, start training and get discouraged after your first workout because you weren’t able to make it across the pool without resting, or you fell off your bike or you had to walk every few minutes during your run. But take heart!
Workout by workout, day by day, you’ll start to notice progress. Just take it one swim, bike and run at a time.
If you can’t make it across the pool without stopping, then grab a kick board and get a feel for the water and build up your fitness by kicking back and forth across the pool. Once you’re comfortable with that, try swimming from one side to the other without stopping. When you’ve done that, then try to swim 2 laps without stopping and then keep going until you’re swimming like a fish!
One swim at a time.
If you fell off your bike and are nervous about your next ride then take your bike to an empty parking lot or a flat road with no cars and practice these 4 things to help build your confidence. Little by little, you’ll get stronger and stronger and be able to pedal farther and farther until you’ve ridden the entire distance of your triathlon without stopping or falling.
One bike ride at a time.
If you have to stop and walk during your run, then stop and walk! Every day, try and run one more step than you did the day before. Just one step. Before you know it, you’ll be running more than you’re walking!
One run at a time.
So the next time you’re feeling overwhelmed in your triathlon training, remember to train like an ant. The ant is a small but mighty powerhouse and so are you.
Day by day, one workout at a time, you’ll make progress and realize that you can complete a triathlon!
